Digia Secures 34.8 Million Euros (FIM 207 Million) in Investments

Helsinki -- Dec 12, 2000 -- Digia Oy, a Finnish wireless software company, completed its second financing round securing 34.8 million euros in new investments. Investor AB from Sweden led the round via its wholly-owned subsidiary Investor Growth Capital. The other second round investors are Bayview 2000, Cisco Systems Inc, GE Equity, a private equity arm of GE Capital, Intel and Sony. Eqvitec Partners and Sonera increased their existing share holding in Digia. The total investment is one of the largest investments in a privately-held, Finnish company ever.

Digia provides software and services for the next generation Wireless Information Devices (WIDs), such as Communicators and Smartphones. The company operates as a Symbian Competence Center and a Training Partner. Digias mission is to enable Symbian licensees, mobile operators and verticals to meet their time-to-market requirements by shortening the product development cycles.

"We will use this round of investments to help fund product development, heavy recruiting of world-class software developers and other quality IT-people, and international expansion. We are pleased to welcome these new investors while we work to create pioneering technology and products", said Mr. Jari Puhakka, CEO of Digia. Representing the whole 3G value-chain

"Introduction of broadband wireless technologies and IP (Internet Protocol) everywhere will mean changes throughout existing and emerging value-chains", said Mr. Pekka Sivonen, Chairman of the Board and founder of Digia. "We expect to be well positioned to develop wireless network and embedded solutions for the mobile information society in a situation, where technology is at a turning point."

"Recent developments in licensing the 3G spectrum throughout Europe have highlighted the importance of broadband wireless applications and services based on them. Investor Growth Capital believes that Digia is a fore-runner in this rapidly evolving market, and as a company it holds the potential to be well positioned within this emerging ecosystem", said Mr. Anders Grns, Managing Director of Investor Growth Capital.

"Sonera is aggressively implementing its global service business together with the best talents in the Mobile Internet. We foresee that our investment in Digia helps us to achieve the milestones written in our plans", said Mr. Jari Mielonen, Chief Technology Officer for Sonera Corporation.

"Intel Capital invested to help aid the development of EPOC software supporting the Intel® XScale" microarchitecture", said Gilles Pellet, Director, Sales and Marketing, Communications and Embedded Solutions Sales Group, Intel Europe, Middle East and Africa. "There is a tremendous amount of momentum for OEMs designing products with the Intel XScale microarchitecture on a variety of platforms and Digia is an example of a company that can help make EPOC more widely used for wireless applications."

Robertson Stephens International acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Digia in this second financing round.
