David Wetherell has served as Chairman, CEO & President of CMGI since he effected a leveraged buyout of CMG Direct in 1986. He took the company public in January of 1994 under the name CMG Information Services (Nasdaq:CMGI).

One month later, he founded BookLink Technologies, Inc., which he then sold to America Online in a stock-based transaction valued in excess of $70M. David used the proceeds of this first sale to fund a two-pronged business model: a central corporate entity incubating a series of Internet marketing and infrastructure companies, and , a strategic investment and development affiliate investing in early-stage Internet and interactive technology companies.

Today, CMGI and represent one the largest and most diversified network of Internet companies in the world. Prior to CMGI David co-founded the software development firm Softrend, Inc., and held senior management positions in application software development and marketing management in the healthcare and transportation industries. He holds a BA in Mathematics and Education from Ohio Wesleyan University.
