Headquartered in Silicon Valley, K2 Optronics is a unique startup focused on the development of leading edge optoelectronic technologies that foster the progress of optical networks in the metro, and allow system manufacturers to build dynamic networks that provide optically enabled services.
Our vision is to become the industry leader for photonics components and modules that provide leading edge and cost effective solutions for optical transmission in the metro. Our technical expertise in the areas of fiber bragg gratings, laser modeling, design and characterization, reliability, module design, and component testing will allow us to create a new-breed of optical components and modules that will drive new architectures in next generation networks.
K2 Optronics' technical skill is coupled with the implementation of a "smart" business model using a balanced in-source/out-source strategy to enable us to bring products to market swiftly.
Using a uniquely patented technology, K2 Optronics is commercializing a technology platform based upon an external cavity laser diode (ECLD) configuration. We are developing a broad family of directly modulated mid-and long-range lasers for OC-48 and OC-192 metro networks.
Our first product is a 2.5 Gbps, directly modulated, ultra-narrow linewidth ECLD for 100-GHz and 50-GHz DWDM applications. This product provides broad wavelength coverage across the entire S-, C- and L-band, and offers substantially lower dispersion and chirp than a directly modulated distributed feedback (DFB). The product is also wavelength stabilized to eliminate the need for wavelength lockers and complex thermal feedback circuits. Not only does our ECLD address the industry's need for very stable, ultra-narrow linewidth DWDM sources for optical networks, but provides the added benefit of shorter lead times and lower overall cost than existing DFB technology
Raj Kapany, CEO & President
Raj S. Kapany has successfully led optoelectronics sales and marketing teams and fiber optics operations around the world. He set up manufacturing in India, China, Malaysia, Holland, Poland and the U.K. In addition Raj has, developed several acquisitions inside AMP/TYCO, including, Fibernet Australia and New Zeland. He also initiated the first optic subsystems business inside AMP/TYCO, Inc., as well as vertically integrating active and passive devices for key Telecom and CATV Companies.
