Server platforms powered by the latest Intel® Pentium® III processors are an excellent choice for businesses requiring low profile, rack mountable, front-end servers. Some key features and benefits include:
- New 512K L2 cache, for increased transaction performance
- Cost-effective components, enabling affordable performance and expansion
- Larger I/O bandwidth to support higher throughput
- Increased memory bandwidth, for fast access to data
- Web-based infrastructure design
Performance Benchmark: Web Servers
Intel Pentium III processor-based servers with 512K cache maximize the total number of simultaneous user connections while maintaining throughput, providing up to three times the user capacity of current infrastructure. This allows the server to support a larger number of users, increase peak load capacity without increasing space requirements, and offer headroom to continue to support increased business growth. These systems offer a breakthrough in web services capacity.
 System Configurations:
1) Intel Pentium III processor, 866 MHz, 256K L2 cache, IBM eServer* xSeries 330,
4GB RAM. For more details, see http://www.spec.org/osg/web99/results/res2000q4/web99-20001016-00069.html
2) Intel Pentium III processor, 1.13 GHz, 512K L2 cache, IBM eServer* xSeries 232,
4GB RAM. For more details, see http://www.spec.org/osg/web99/results/res2001q3/web99-20010625-00124.html
SPECweb99 is the next-generation SPEC benchmark for evaluating the performance of World Wide Web Servers. In response to rapidly advancing Web technology, the SPECweb99 benchmark includes many sophisticated and state-of-the-art enhancements to meet the modern demands of Web users of today and tomorrow. Performance Benchmark: Front-End Server Applications
Intel Pentium III processor-based servers with 512K cache also can effectively manage a wide variety of front-end server applications, providing faster site response, reduced cost per transaction, and an improvement in user experience for customers accessing Web-based information.

System Configurations:
1) Intel Pentium III processor, 1.0 GHz, 256K L2 cache, Intel STL2,
2GB RAM, Microsoft Windows* 2000 Server sp2, Microsoft IIS* 5.0, Ultra-3 SCSI controller, Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit NIC
2) Intel Pentium III processor, 1.26 GHz, 512K L2 cache, IBM eServer* xSeries 232, 2GB RAM, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server sp2, Microsoft IIS 5.0, Ultra-3 SCSI controller, Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit NIC
WebBench measures Web server software performance by running different Web server packages on the same server hardware or by running a given Web server package on different hardware platforms. Version 4.0 of WebBench answers user requests for more connections and other facilities for putting more stress on bigger servers and more accurately modeling real-world server workloads. WebBench's standard test suites produce two overall scores for the server: requests per second and throughput as measured in bytes per second. WebBench provides both static standard test suites and dynamic standard test suites.
Performance test and ratings are measured using specific computer systems and/or components and reflect the approximate performance of Intel products as measured by those tests. Any difference in system hardware or software design or configuration may affect actual performance.
