Intel to Sell Its Downtown Austin Property
Since placing its Downtown Office Building project on hold in March of 2001, Intel has been evaluating all options including sale of the building or continuing to hold until construction could re-start.
Based on our evaluation of the situation and discussions with city officials and community stakeholders we have made the decision to sell the downtown Austin property and to continue to lease in our current buildings. The property we now lease will meet our growth and business needs for the foreseeable future, said Bill Westmoreland, Austin Corporate Services site manager.
Intel Austins 550 employees will continue to conduct development and research of new Intel products in leased facilities along MOPAC, at Plaza on the Lakes and on Northland Drive. Intel will maintain its support of education efforts through Partners in Education, the Intel Teach to the Future Program, the Intel Science Talent Search, and to the community through Intel Involved volunteer efforts and United Way.
