What do you do at Intel?

I am a buyer in Worldwide Marcom Purchasing, supporting all of the sales and marketing groups at Intel. My job is to manage the entire supply base of print and creative design vendors, which internal marketing managers use for different projects and campaigns. I am in charge of supplier selection and management, contract negotiations and implementing new ways to manage this supply base more efficiently.

What is your typical day like at Intel?

My typical day usually involves developing an effective contract negotiation plan for new suppliers that my internal customers need to add to the supply base. By putting this vendor under contract, I help lock in competitive, low prices for Intel while also mitigating risk, so it's important that the plan is thorough. I also spend time meeting with internal customers to make sure we add quality suppliers which will meet their needs. My day is also spent working on various strategic projects for internal process improvements.

What qualifications did you need?

My bachelors of scrience degree in supply chain management has been a great help in giving me the tools necessary to effectively and efficiently manage the supply base that I am responsible for. Further, it has helped me come up with creative ideas and ways of improving the commodities I manage which mirror what else is going on in the industry in terms of productivity and efficiency improvements.

In order to keep up with what is going on in the industry, I am a member of National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM). Whenever possible, I try to attend events and seminars in order to stay ahead of the game. Then I bring the best known methods back to Intel for implementation.

Why did you choose Intel?

I chose Intel because it's a world-class company, unparalleled in the technology industry, and I knew I wanted to work for that kind of company. Furthermore, I knew it would offer me a wealth of career opportunities, growth and the experience working on cutting-edge ideas that affect Intel worldwide.

What do you do for fun?

I love living in the Bay Area because there is so much to do here. I love attending outdoor concerts and SF Giants/Oakland A's baseball games. I also participate in three volleyball leagues, a softball team and occasionally go rock-climbing. On the weekends I enjoy spending time in San Francisco trying out new restaurants and nightlife.
