David M. Cowan is Vice President, Enterprise Platforms Group, and Director of the Enterprise Architecture Lab. The Enterprise Architecture Lab is responsible for developing platform architecture and supporting technologies for the Enterprise Platform Group's server and workstation product lines.
Cowan joined Intel in 1982 as an engineer in the Advanced Reliability and Quality Assurance Organization. During the first decade of his Intel career, Cowan held numerous product, architecture and technology development positions. These span industrial control product lines (MultiBus-I, MultiBus-II and Bit-Bus), instrumentation products (I2ICE and various other microprocessor in-circuit emulators), OEM server and workstation products (chipsets, board sets and systems), and super computing (TERAFLOPS program).
Cowan has held a number of management positions. Most recently, he was General Manager of the Advanced Components and Server/Workstation Chipset Divisions, responsible for workstation and server chipset development; General Manager of the High-End Server Division, responsible for scaleable back-end server development; co-General Manager of the Server Business Unit, responsible for front-end server development; and Director of Platform Hardware Engineering of the Scaleable System Division.
Cowan was born in Yuma, Ariz., in May 1959. He received an associate's degree in Computer Engineering Technology and a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1982 from the Oregon Institute of Technology.
